TINYHAWK & BIZZARRO

Biography

Tinyhawk & Bizzarro is a small miracle. The quartet led by guitarist and composer Jenni Kinnunen has made guitar-driven instrumental music interesting, electrifying and future oriented. The band took off like a rocket. They started gigging actively in the spring of 2023, and in the fall of the same year their debut album Nekorok was released to rave reviews from Finnish music media. In January 2024 Tinyhawk & Bizzarro were awarded as the best new act at Indie Awards, and in March they charmed the viewers of the televised Great Journalist Award gala. This series of triumphs culminated in April, when unique and open-minded music of the album Nekorok won the Teosto Prize, possibly the most significant Finnish music prize. In the summer of 2024 Tinyhawk & Bizzarro will perform on most Finnish quality festivals (e.g. Provinssirock, Kesärauha, Pori Jazz and Flow). The adventure continues in the fall, when the band hits club stages and concentrates on creating new music.

The reason for all this success is clear. It is based on Jenni Kinnunen’s unique vision of guitar music that combines rich, deep soil with shiny, high-flying textures. In Kinnunen’s music the genres of popular music lose their meaning. Kinnunen started off playing classical guitar, but she jumped fence to a more rhythmic side. She is a combiner of different worlds and an adventurer who follows her own instincts. Bizzarro trio founded by Markus Väisänen provides sensitive but solid support to Tinyhawk’s flight. Väisänen’s guitarism is connected telepathically to Kinnunen’s leading themes, while the bass and drums of Teemu Aho and Jaakko Pöyhönen create a sturdy rhythmic foundation for the tapestry of guitars. This magical interplay creates a world where the dancey euphoria of disco music, wild naivety of Japanese pop culture, hypnotic effects of desert blues and picturesque melodies become one. This story can go anywhere.
